“Life is ours in vain” is the first line of “Song“, a poem by Kath Walker, aka Oodgeroo Noonuccal, (1920-1993), Australian poet and civil rights activist. The poem is simple and direct and this tune tries to reflect the essence of balance between light and sister shade. It was written especially for Mr Downland’s Midnight. Mr Dowland’s Midnight is an oud/sax/guitar trio based in Bristol, UK. It is a unique, imaginative and highly original band offering a rich journey from West to East, from ancient to modern, and back, with plenty of improvisation on the way.
“… a really popular concert at Southbank Centre … created a wonderful atmosphere in the foyer and the audience thoroughly enjoyed the trio’s unique sound”. (Hanah Cox Southbank Centre event manager) “Love it” (Nick Luscombe BBC Radio 3 Late Junction presenter)
